Curbing Heel Pain
That stabbing heel pain know as plantar fasciitis can put a
damper on your best efforts at fitness. As you age, the ligaments of the
feet stretch and begin to lose some of their supportive quality, allowing the
soles of your feet to stretch beyond their normal length.
Here are 5 steps you can take to curb heel pain and get some relief.
1. Soften your steps. Use supportive inserts in your walking
shoes.
2. Stay off the slopes. Avoid walking or jogging on hilly surfaces.
3. Replace worn out sneaks. The average walking shoe is considered worn
out after 300 miles.
4. Keep calves flexible. Stretch
calves before and after your walks.
5. Talk to your health care provider about taking anti-inflammatory medication.
6. Visit a specialist. If you don't notice any improvement in 1 to 2
weeks, see a podiatrist or an orthopedic specialist.
